Video Marketing is the wave all marketers should be riding for the next six months into 2021.

But why?

Well, we can tell you.

Research indicates that in 2020, 92% of marketers have admitted that video is an important part of their marketing strategy. This number has grown from 78% in 2015, a significant five-year increase.  Estimates place consumers at spending 100 minutes every day watching online videos in 2021, nearly a 20% increase from 2019!

Imagine being an advertiser queued up for a customer’s just under 2 hours of attention, and you have 30-60 seconds to make your pitch.

This idea is reality, and we have some tips to help you improve your video marketing for the next 6 months.

  1. Use a high quality camera

Ideally, you should use the heist quality camera available to you.  Running out to purchase the latest model is not necessary though, unless you plan on creating many long-form videos.  A camera on a smartphone less than 2 years old should suffice for your video marketing.

Additional tools which you may want to consider include a wired microphone and a tripod.  The microphone will pick up audio much clearer than the internal microphone of a standard smartphone.  A tripod will stabilize the camera to prevent shakiness and blurring within the recording.  These small investments can make your videos look less like amateur-hour and more like professional advertising.

  1. Work through what you want to say

Prepare your video content, but don’t necessarily write a script to perform verbatim.  If 100% scripted, the figures within your video may come off as stiff and disingenuous.   The pressure of memorizing every single word is difficult for many people, and can let to discouragement.  Write down your main points and then let your speakers use a bit of extemporization to capture the essence of the message in one take.

  1. Add captions!

Captions require a bit more editing, but they are very useful in the long-term and here’s why:

Accessibility –  videos with captions accommodate Deaf/Hard of Hearing people who are not able to hear audio.

Multi-tasking –  If your target customer is in a place where they may not be able to play sound, like on a public bus, the captions will allow them to interact with your video

Appearance – By taking the time to add captions to your videos, your efforts will seem more polished and professional. Captions provide additional stimulation in a video which may entice more viewers.

Google Drive and Youtube offer easy methods for video-captioning.

  1. Keep initial videos short

Sometimes we will notice an inverse relationship between the length of the video and the amount of attention it attracts;  online attention span is ever shortening, and keeping your videos precise and to-the-point will not only save you time and money, but may garner more views.  For beginners with video marketing, we recommend keeping videos within the 1-2 minute mark for easy embedding in social media channels.

Once you’ve established an audience responsive to your videos, we suggest opening a Youtube channel which can host longer, more in-depth video content.

  1. Think outside the box!

Videos are an amazing creative outlet.  By brainstorming with your marketing team or with an agency like ours, you can bring something entirely unique to life.  Whether it’s with a skit or stop-motion animation, a little determination goes a long way into making a video truly special.
